Beta Participation Terms

These terms govern your participation in the ANNA closed beta. By creating an account you accept them. They are short on purpose.
1. Who you are contracting with

ANNA is currently operated by an individual, not a company.
2. What ANNA is
ANNA is a language-learning platform. It gives you structured lessons, exercises, homework and conversation practice with an AI tutor, and it adapts to your results.
It is a beta. It is unfinished, offered free of charge, and provided so that we can find out what does not work. Expect bugs, changes, and occasional unavailability.
3. Who can take part
Participation is by invitation only, and is restricted to adults (18 or over). You may not create an account for anyone else, or share your account.
4. It is free, and there is nothing to pay
The beta is free. There is no subscription, no trial that converts into one, and no payment details are collected. If ANNA becomes a paid product later, that will be a new agreement you choose to enter — your beta account will never be charged automatically.
5. What we ask of you
- Use your own account, and keep your password to yourself.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, or break into the service.
- Do not use the AI features for anything unlawful, abusive, or unrelated to language learning. They cost real money per request, and the beta has a fixed budget.
- Do not use automated tools to interact with the service.
- Tell us what is wrong. That is the point of the beta, and it is the only thing we actually want from you.
6. What you write stays yours
Anything you write or record — homework, notes, conversations — remains yours. We do not claim ownership of it, we do not publish it, and we do not sell it.
We use it to run the service. If you also consented, at registration, to it being reviewed to improve the teaching, we use it for that too — and you can withdraw that consent at any time, from your profile, with no effect on your course. See the Privacy Policy, section 3.7.
The lessons, exercises and course materials belong to us, and are provided for your personal learning during the beta.
7. What the AI can and cannot do
ANNA teaches using large language models. Two consequences you should know about:
- The tutor can be wrong. It can give an incorrect explanation, mark something wrongly, or state a grammar rule that does not hold. If a grade looks wrong, tell us — a person will look at it.
- The content is generated. Lessons and exercises are produced by a model and reviewed by us, not written word by word.
ANNA is not a certified course and does not lead to a recognised qualification. Any level shown to you is our own assessment, not an official CEFR certification.
8. Availability
We do not promise the service will be available at any particular time. It runs on a single server, may go down, and may be taken offline for maintenance without notice.
Keep anything you would be upset to lose. We take daily backups and we have tested restoring them, but this is a beta and you should not treat it as the only home for anything important.
9. Your data
Handled as described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary: your data is stored in the European Union, is not sold, is not used for advertising, and can be exported or deleted at your request.
10. Ending your participation
You may stop at any time, with no notice and no reason, by asking us to delete your account ([email protected]). We delete it, and everything attached to it, within one month — in practice, within days. Backups containing it expire within 30 days.
We may end your participation if you break these terms, or when the beta closes. We will give you notice and time to export your data first, unless the breach makes that unreasonable.
11. When the beta ends
The beta will end. When it does:
- We will tell you in advance, by email.
- You will have the opportunity to export your data.
- Personal data is deleted 30 days after the beta closes, unless you continue with a successor service. We keep only anonymous statistics that can no longer be linked to you.
- If ANNA continues as a product, you will be offered the option to keep your account. You will not be enrolled or charged automatically.
12. Liability
The service is provided free of charge and as-is, without warranties.
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. In cases of ordinary negligence we are liable only for breach of an obligation essential to the purpose of this agreement, and then only for foreseeable damage typical of such an agreement.
Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
13. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. If a change matters to you, we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop participating and have your data deleted — that is the whole remedy, since the service is free.
14. Governing law
German law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you live — including, for participants in Brazil, the Código de Defesa do Consumidor.
There is no online dispute resolution platform to point you to: the European Commission's ODR platform was discontinued in 2025. We are not obliged, and do not undertake, to participate in consumer arbitration proceedings — but you can always write to us first, and we would rather resolve it that way.
